An American basketball coach and former player Derek Fisher was born on 9th August, 1974 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Currently, he is the head coach of the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Derek attended Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School located in Little Rock. There, he was a letterman in basketball. He then went on to join University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR).
Derek was selected 24th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1996 NBA Draft and spent his first eight seasons with them where he won three consecutive league championships (2000-2002) with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.
Fisher signed as a free agent with the golden State Warriors after the 2003-04 NBA season. He signed a six years and $37 million contract with Golden State. Later, he was traded to the Utah Jazz whom he helped lead to the Western Conference finals. Because of his daughter’s health, Fisher asked to be released from his contract in the year 2007. He later rejoined the Lakers on 19th July 2007 by signing three year contract worth roughly $14 million and won two more NBA titles.
Fisher was traded along with a 2012 first round draft pick to the Houston Rockets for Jordon Hills on 15th March, 2012. He was waived by the Rockets on 19th March without playing for them after he negotiated a contract buyout. He then moved to Oklahoma City Thunder for the remaining of the season where he played for the 2012 NBA championship in his eight Finals appearance. He signed with the Dallas Mavericks on 29th November, 2012.
He got injured the patellar tendon of his right knee on 20th December which required an estimated two week recovery time. He played only nine games before being injured and after that he asked to be released from his contract. Fisher rejoined Oklahoma City on 25th February, 2013 for the remainder of the 2012-13 season.
He again resigned with the Thunder on 24th July, 2013 for the 2013-14 season and played in 81 regular season games and all 19 playoff games. After the 2013-14 season, at the time of his retirement, Derek Fisher held NBA career playoff records of 259 games played and 161 games won. He was hired by the New York Knicks on 10th June, 2014 to be the team’s head coach. He signed five year and $25 million contract.
To talk about his personal life, he is married to his wife Candace Patton. The couple got married on 19th February 2005. They have four children which includes a set of twins. The twins Drew and Tatum were born in 2006 and the other Marshall and Chloe were both from Candace’s previous marriage.
