Greta Van Susteren is an American television host for Fox News Channel. She is also a commentator. Susteren was born on June 11,1954 in Appleton, Wisconsin, United States. She presently hosts, "On the Record w/ Greta Van Susteren" at Fox News. Previously, she worked as a criminal and civil trial lawyer and was a legal analyst on CNN's "Burden of Proof" between 1994 and 2002.
Susteren father, Urban Van Susteren was a close friend of U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy. Her sister, Lise is a forensic psychiatrist and was the candidate for the U.S. Senate. She has a brother named, Dirk Van Susteren, who was a journalist and an editor for Vermount Sunday magazine. Susteren completed her schooling from Xavier High School in 1972 and then attended the University of Wisconsin in 1976.
She majored in geography and economics and later received a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1979. Before starting her career in the television, she worked as an adjunct faculty member at the Law Center from 1984 to 1999. While she was working as a trial attorney, she would represent clients in various civil and criminal cases. Susteren received her honorary doctor of laws degree from Stetson Law School.
Prior to work at FNC, Susteren associated with CNN as a host. She officially joined CNN in 1991 being a legal analyst. She hosted CNN's, "The Point with Greta Van Susteren" , a prime time news show. She also appeared on the daily legal show, "Burden of Proof." During her time at CNN, she covered numerous stories which include criminal and civil trials of O.J. Simpson followed by Elian Gonzalez custody battle.
Further, she contributed the CNN network by working in the several legal analysis ares especially during the covereage of presidential election 2000, which earned her the American Bar Association's Presidential Award for Excellence in Journalism. Susteren moved to Fox News Channel From CNN in January 2002.
After her arrival at FNC, she was assigned to host ,"On the Record with Greta Van Susteren", the show was successfull in terms of viewers rating. Her recent coverage at FNC includes,Virginia Tech massacre, where she made an hour long interview with students, families, and others who affected from the shootings.
Greta Van Susteren is in the late fifties. She has spent decades in the news television. Speaking about her personal life, she is married to John P.Coale in 1988. Her husband is a lawyer by his profession. The couple is the member of the Church of Scientology. Susteren has her own restaurant, the Old Mill Inn, in Mattituck, New York which came in operation since 2006.
Susteren has co-authored a book titled, My Turn at The Bullypulpit:Straight Talk About The Things That Drive Me Nuts.
