An American meteorologist Jim Cantore was born on 16th February, 1964 in Beacon Falls, Connecticut. He is mostly known for his presentations on The Weather Channel. He was raised in White River Junction, Vermont. He attended Lyndon State University and got graduated from there in 1986 with a B.S. in Meteorology.
After completing his graduation Cantore got his first job in The Weather Channel in July of 1986. Since then he has been working with the channel. He has become one of the most well-known meteorologists on the television. Jim has covered many major weather events such as Hurricanes Katrina, Gustav, Rita Isabel, Floyd, Andrew, Mitch, Irene, Boonie and Sandy. In addition, he is the member of the American Meteorology society and the National Weatehr Association.
He also holds the AMS Television Seal of Approval. Besides, he has also received the NOAA-David S. Johnson Award in the year 2002 for his innovative use of environmental satellite technology. He has also reported from the events such as the Space Shuttle Discovery Launch, PGA Tournament, NFL games and Winter X Games.
Apart from live reporting for The Weather Channel, he also serves on the TWC series Storm Stories as the narrator. In addition, he is also featured in the beginning of the ECHL’s Stockton Thunder entrance video where he says “Hello, this is meteorologist Jim Cantore from The Weather Channel, a special weather advisory has been issued for the Central Valley-a 100% chance of thunder”.
While he was doing a live on-location report on 28th January 2014 at the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, he was attacked by the student named Colin Marcelli. He noticed the charge and kneed the student on the stomach. The student immediately ran off away and the video footage of this got over than 2 million views in You Tube.
To talk about his personal life, Jim Cantore was married to Tamra Cantore. He met Tamra while he was at TWC. The couple has two children. One is a daughter named Christina who was born in 1993 and another is a son named Ben born in 1995. Jim’s wife, Tamra suffers from Parkinson’s disease and both of their children have Fragile X Syndrome. Due to some reason, they got divorced in the year 2007.
Apart from that, Jim Cantore is active in charitable works for both the diseases, supporting FRAXA, the Fragile X Research Foundation, and the Parkinson’s Unity Walk. In addition, he also contributes his valuable time to Make-a-wish Foundation events around the country. Besides, he had also served with the American Red Cross as a celebrity cabinet member. He enjoys skiing, playing softball and golf.
