Kimi Raikkonen is a Finnish racing driver who was born on 17th October, 1979 in Espoo Finland. His hobbies includes ice Hockey and snowboarding. He is mostly known for his dislike of giving media interviews. He frequently answers questions in a blunt and monosyllabic manner.
Kimi started his career when he was just at the age of ten. He successfully raced karts and he won the Nordic Karting Championship in 1998. Kimi then went on to compete in the Formula Ford Euro Cup where he came second in the European Formula Super A Championship. Kimi lifted the trophy as Champion of the British Formula Renault winter series when he was twenty years old.
Later, in the following two seasons, he won an impressive 13 out of 23 Formula Renault UK Championship races. After a year, Kimi got his first taste of Formula I, testing for Sauber ar Ferrari’s Mugello circuit. Kimi was then signed by Ferrari up to race them the very next season. The next season, he signed for McLaren. There, he replaced another Finn, Mika Hakkinen. His first race win came in the year 2003 in Malaysia where beat second placed Rubens Barrichello by an impressive 39 seconds after qualifying seventh. He spent five years with McLaren and during that time, he finished 6th, 2nd, 7th, 2nd and 5th.
After the 2006 Italian Grand Prix, it was announced by Ferrari that Kimi had signed a three year contract with Scuderia Ferrari for the 2007-09 seasons. He then became teammate with Brazilian Felipe Massa who had been driving since 2006 for Ferrari. Kimi was estimated to be the world’s highest paid star in any team sport. He won his first FI World Championship driver’s title with 110 points at Sao Paulo which was the final race of the season.
Ferrari confirmed a deal with Alonso in September of 2009 which meant Kimi would leave Ferrari with a year remaining on his contract. He then went into WRC to drive a Ctroen C4 WRC for the Citroen Junior Team in the World Rally Championship for 2010. Along with the rally, he also competed in NASCAR and made his debut for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Camping World Truck Series.
Following the end of the 2011 season, Renault announced that Kimi would return to drive for them in the year 2012 when the team will be known as Lotus. He signed a two year contract with Lotus and started with the 2012 Formula One season. He won the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in his comeback season. It was confirmed on 11th September, 2013 that Kimi would return to Ferrari and had agreed a 2 years deal starting from 2014.
To talk about his personal life, Kimi Raikkonen got married to Finnish former model Jenni Dahlman who is also Miss Scandinavia 2001. The couple got married on 31st July, 2004. They met each other in early 2002 during the Miss Scandinavia contest which she had won. Kimi and Jenni had a home in Baar, Switzerland, an apartment in Helsinki and a villa in Porkkala. It was reported by various media outlets on February on 2013 that the couple had already separated.
Apart from that, Kimi was named into Forbes Magazine’s The Celebrity 100 list in 2008 among two Formula One drivers, other being Fernando Alonso. He was ranked 36th and 41st the previous year. As of 2008, on the same list, Kimi is listed as the 26th highest paid celebrity overall and the 5th highest paid sportsman behind Tiger Woods, David Beckham, Michael Jordan and Phil Mickelson. Later, in the year 2009, he was listed as the 2nd highest paid athlete in the world behind Woods.
