An American musician as well as a singer-songwriter Kris Allen was born on 21st June 1985 in Jacksonville, Arkansas, United States. Kris is the winner of the American Idol’s eighth season. As a child, he was born as Kristopher Neil Allen to his parents Kimberly and Neil Allen. Allen is the elder of two sons. His younger brother named Daniel is a college cheerleading coach.
Allen had an interest in music from his early childhood. He began to play viola in an elementary school and after that he went on to play the instrument in Mills University Studies High School orchestra. He also won a spot on Arkansas all-state orchestra. When he was at the age of thirteen, he started teaching himself playing the guitar as well as the piano. In addition to that, Kris was also a worship leader at New Life Church which is in Maumelle, Arkansas.
After completing high school, Allen went on to join the University of Central Arkansas and later dropped out to pursue a career in music. There, he was a business major and member of Chi Alpha campus ministries. He wrote and also produced an album in the year 2007 which was entitled Brand New Shoes along with college friends and band mates Michael Holmes and Chase Erwin.
Kris was convinced by his brother Daniel to give an audition for the eight season of American Idol. He gave the audition in Louisville, Kentucky where he sang a song “A Song for You”. He performed in group during the Hollywood week. The group included Matt Giraud who was also one of the last five finalists. Simon Cowell criticized him on Top 5 episode by labeling his performance as “a little bit wet”.
Although he was criticized, Allen made it to Top 3. On 20th May 2009, Kris Allen was announced as an “American Idol” of the eighth season beating Adam Lambert. In the late 2009, Kris released his debut album in which he worked with sing writers and producers such as Eg White, Davis Hodges and Chris Daughtry. The first song of the album titled “Live Like We’re Dying” was released in September which peaked out at #89 on single charts.
The same year in 17th November, he released the album “Kris Allen” in which he had wrote and co-wrote 9 out of 12 tracks. He then made his comeback in the year 2012 with his sophomore album titled Thank You Camelia which was released on 22nd May 2012. Allen toured the US from 8th January to 3rd May 2013 on his second solo tour Out Alive. Allen tweeted on 26th June 2014 that his third post Idol album named Horizons would released on 12th August 2014.
To talk about his personal life, he is married to his longtime girlfriend Katy O’Connell. They began to date each other while Allen was in his junior year of high school. The couple got married on 26th September 2008. Kris and Katy also have one child, a son named Oliver Neil Allen who was born on 30th July 2013. As he has maintained to keep his profile low, we do not have more information about his personal life.
