An American professional baseball player Mike Napoli was born on 31st October 1981 in Hollywood, Florida. He is the first baseman for Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball. He attended Charles W. Flanagan High School located in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Anaheim Angels drafted him out of the high school in the 17th round of 2000 Major League Baseball Draft.
Mike began his professional career with rookie-level Butte Copper Kings. After suffering from a lower back strain, he had to sat out for most of the year. He returned the following year with High-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He was then transferred to Single-A Cedar Rapids. In the year 2005, he was promoted to Double-A Arkansas where he finished second in the league in extra-base hits and fifth in the runs second.
During the winters of 2004 and 2005, Mike also played for Santiago “Las Aguilas” in the Dominican Republic. On 4th May 2006, Mike made his MLB debut in Comerica Park against Detroit Tigers. He began as the Opening Day starting catcher in 2007. Mike ended up 2007 season with batting .247 with 10 home runs, despite he appeared in only 75 games. The following year also he was the Opening Day starter at catcher.
During the 2008 American League Divisional Series in Fenway Park which was against Boston Red Sox, he posted one of the greatest individual post season performances in the history of Angels. He finished the 2009 season with a .272 batting average and hit 20 home runs for second season in the row. He was then traded to Toronto Blue Jays on 21st January 2011 along with outfielder Juan Rivers. Later after four days, he was again traded to Texas Rangers by Blue Jays.
The following year in 11th February, Napoli signed a one year, $9.4 million contract for avoiding the arbitration with Rangers. After the season, Mike became the free agent. After that, he agreed a three year, $39 million contract on 3rd December 2012 with Boston Red Sox. Following a six week pending physical examination, his physical showed a signs of a hip issue which made the term on a one year, $5 million deal with incentives which can make the deal worth $13 million. Later, he again agreed to resign with the Red Sox on 6th December 2013 on a two year contract worth $32 million.
