Rick Perry governor

An American politician Rick Perry was born on 4th March 1950 in Paint Creek, Texas, U.S. he is the 47th as well as current governor of Texas. As a child, he was named as James Richard Perry. He is the son of ranchers Joseph Ray Perry and former Amelia June Holt. He attended Paint Creek High School and graduated from there in the year 1968. He then went on to join Texas A&M University. There, he was a member of Corps of Cadets, a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and he was also elected as senior class social secretary as well as elected as one of the A&M’s five yell leaders. He then graduated from there with a Bachelor of Science in animal science in the year 1972.

Perry interned during several summers in early 1970s as a door to door book salesman with the Southwestern Company. After completing his graduation, he was then commissioned in the US Air Force. He completed his pilot training in February of 1974. He was then assigned to the 772nd Tactical Airlift Squadron as a C-130 pilot at the Dyess Air Force Base. Later in 1977, Perry left the US Air Force with the rank of the captain. He then returned back t Texas and started business farming cotton along with his father.

Rick Perry was elected as a Democrat to Texas House of Representatives in 1984. He served three two years in the office. Later, he switched to the Republicans in 1989 from the Democratic Party. The following year, Perry was elected as state’s Agriculture Commissioner. He remained the agriculture commissioner until in 1998 when he was elected as lieutenant governor of Texas, taking office in the year 1999 under Governor George W. Bush. After Bush became the President of United States, on 21st December 2000, Perry became the governor himself. In the year 2002, 2006 and 2010, Rick Perry was elected in his own right to full gubernatorial terms.

Perry made headlines in July of 2013 by announcing that he would not seek re-election in 2014. He also said that he would be leaving office after the 2014 elections and retire at the end of his term on 20th January 2015. He was indicted on 15th August 2014 by Travis County grand jury for abusing of the power. The following day, he described the indictment as a political move and an abuse of the power and vowed to fight the charges. He was then asked to resign by the Texas Democratic Party. Later, on 19th August 2014, Perry turned himself in at Travis County jail.

Prior to that, Perry has also written two books. His first book was published in February of 2008 which is named On My Honor: Why the American Values of the Boy Scouts are Worth Fighting For. His another book which he wrote with senior advisor Chip Roy was published on November of 2010. The book was named Fed Up! Our Fight to Save America from Washington. In addition to that, Rick had also played minor roles as himself in several films which also includes Man of the House, Hating Breitbart and Deep in the Heart.

To talk about his personal life, Rick Perry is married to his childhood sweetheart Anita Thigpen. They knew each other since the elementary school. The couple got married in the year 1982 and they have two grown up children named Griffin and Sydney. He was awarded “The Top Cowboy of Texas” in the year 2001 by the American Cowboy Culture Association based in Lubbock. Apart from that, Rick is also a member of National Society of the Sons of the American revolution and he had also won their Gold Good citizenship Medal.
