Elizabeth Vargas is one of the accomplished American television journalists who anchors ABC's newsmagazine "20/20" and "ABC News." She is a former anchor of "World News Tonight."
She was born on September 6, 1962 in Patesrson, New Jersey, United States. She is a daughter of Rafael Vargas, a Puerto Rican father who is the former U.S. Army Colonel, and Anne Vargas, an American-Irish mother.
Her childhood was spent in Germany and Belgium. Vargas attended the University of Missouri in Columbia and received her bachelor's degree in journalism, afterwards she started her journalism career by working as a reporter/anchor at KOMU-TV.
Vargas was a genuine student of her University, as she had got an oppotunity to display her skills soon after the graduation. After serving at KOMU-TV, she moved to WBBM-TV, a CBS affiliate where she was acknowledged for her work by the senior vice president at ABC, Phyllis McGrady.
